Types of Online Resources[edit | edit source]

To facilitate research and discovery, we aim to systematically include the following online resources in STCV:

  • Photographs of pages in surveyed copies that are relevant to the STCV description
  • Links to digitised copies (full-text) of editions described in STCV
  • Links to related records in other bibliographical databases (STCN, USTC, ISTC, V17, etc.

Digitised Pages from Surveyed Copies[edit | edit source]

The cataloguers of STCV take photographs of pages from surveyed copies that are relevant to the bibliographical description. These may include:

  • Typographical title page
  • Engraved title page
  • Printer's device
  • Colophon
  • Approbation, privilege, ...
  • Pages where the fingerprint positions were taken from

The images are added to the database and can be retrieved via links in the individual records.

The link labels refer to the specific copy from which the image was taken by including the library acronym and the call number.

Links to Digital Copies (Full-Text Repositories)[edit | edit source]

When participating libraries digitise copies surveyed by STCV, links to the full-text representations are included in the records. Digitised copies from other libraries are included when they are reliably found to be of the same edition. However, the data in STCV records cannot be changed or completed based on the consultation of a digitised copy alone, even if this copy appears to be more complete than the surveyed physical copies! The cataloguer can point out important differences between surveyed and digitised copies in a general note.

The link labels start with 'electronically available' (by using the language independent code <EB>), the library acronym and call number specific to the digitised copy. We do not mention the repository in the label.

Example
Electronically available: UGENT-CB G.000555

In the STCV online catalogue, it is possible to limit searches to editions for which digital copies are available. A list of all digitised editions can be generated using this search query: http://anet.be/opac/stcv/stcvopac/n/(dr:url).

Links to Online References (Bibliographical Databases)[edit | edit source]

Editions described in STCV are sometimes also included in other authoritative bibliographical databases, like STCN, USTC or ISTC. Originally, references to these records were included as a reference annotation, mentioning the database acronym and record number.

As of October 2015, deep links to these external records are also added, allowing for immediate access. The link labels mention the database acronym and the record number, in the same manner as the bibliographical annotations did. Existing records were updated retroactively to include direct links instead of bibliographical annotations.
